The American Institute of Dental Public Health (AIDPH) was created to promote and disseminate evidence-based practices to advanced education students and practitioners in dental public health. Our mission is to advance dental public health through science and education. Supported by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), AIDPH provides educational internships in academic leadership, opportunities in federal service, and focused public health service-learning experiences along the Texas-Mexico border region. Each year, our annual colloquium invites attendees to apply dental public health concepts in real-world situations. Previous themes have included dental public health informatics, precision dental public health, interprofessional practice and value-based care, and confronting inequity through oral health policy. Along with the colloquium, our podcast series, Anecdotal Evidence, connects public health thought leaders and dental public health experts in exploring emerging health topics. Interviews with dental public health experts on career development and an online resource center housed in our virtual learning environment complement curricula for DPH students and residents. A mentorship program guides recent graduates of advanced education programs into dental public health career opportunities and supports the inclusion of underrepresented minorities into the profession. By creating learning opportunities in DPH science and education, AIDPH seeks to cultivate a future dental workforce to understand the oral health needs of underserved populations.
