Laura Lay has been at Winning Strategies Washington (WSW), a bipartisan federal government relations and grants procurement firm in Washington, DC, since 2002 and built WSW’s competitive grants practice from scratch. For over 18 years, Laura has been working with WSW clients, including, institutions of higher education, counties and municipalities, hospitals and healthcare systems, museums, and nonprofits, to maximize federal funding opportunities through the federal competitive grants process. Each year, Laura assists numerous WSW clients with their grant applications securing multiple millions of dollars in funding through the competitive grant process. Laura’s expertise includes the federal budget and appropriations process, and she specializes in guiding clients through the ever-changing landscape of seeking federal funds through competitive grants; identifying and tracking federal funding opportunities; developing, preparing, writing, editing, and submitting grants; connecting clients to federal departments and agencies; and managing the overall grants process for clients. Clients depend on Laura’s close attention to detail and extensive federal grants experience to ensure they are in the best possible position for success. Over many years, Laura has built relationships with a wide range of program managers at various federal departments and agencies that administer competitive grants, providing a unique resource to clients seeking competitive funding. She is also an active member of the Grants Professionals Association, the premier membership organization of grant professionals, and the President of the DC Metro Chapter. She has also attended numerous grants training workshops and seminars to keep up to date on strategies to help grants clients succeed.
