Dr. Kristin Holland is the Associate Director for Science for CDC’s Division of Overdose Prevention (DOP). There, she provides guidance to Division leadership and staff on scientific policy and research efforts and oversees CDC’s Cannabis Strategy & Coordination Unit. She also strategically plans for and leads the establishment of the Division’s substance use and overdose prevention research activities and priorities. Prior to joining DOP, Kristin spent 11 years in CDC’s Division of Violence Prevention (DVP), where she most recently served as the Lead of the Morbidity and Behavioral Surveillance Team. There, she oversaw efforts to redesign the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, spearheaded funding initiatives for syndromic surveillance of nonfatal suicide-related outcomes and firearm injuries, developed strategic plans to improve surveillance of adverse childhood experiences among youth, and fostered and developed innovative projects, such as those involving linkage of morbidity and mortality data, predictive modeling efforts using social media data, and exploration of the utility of near real-time data to generate prevalence estimates comparable to traditional data sources.
