Zachary DW Dezman, MD, MS is a clinical associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the departments of Emergency Medicine and Epidemiology and Public Health. He is a graduate of Albany Medical College and the Clinical Research Training Program at the National Institutes of Health. Dr Dezman is board-certified in emergency medicine and is a practicing physician in the emergency department at the Baltimore Veteran Administration Medical Center. Dr Dezman’s research has focused on substance use trends in emergency department patients, and he is a founding contributor to the Emergency Department Drug Surveillance (EDDS) system. Dr Dezman has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts. His work has been presented to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary, the United States Sentencing Commission, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and has been featured in the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, and Fox News.
