LaPortia O'Neal began her career with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. During her time with the Department, she served as a Correctional Officer, Sergeant and Probation/Parole Officer. After relocating to Virginia, she began employment with the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC). Her goal for relocation was to work with an agency who is a national leader in corrections. Her focus shifted to reentry services. While in the VADOC, Portia has held the positions of Case Management Counselor, Cognitive Counselor and Unit Manager. Her most recent promotion to Cognitive Program Manager allows her to offer technical assistance to Cognitive Therapeutic and Cognitive Community Programs. Portia is a statewide staff trainer and facilitator for inmate programs; as well as dialogue and gender responsivity trained.
