Dr. Kun Zhang is a Health Scientist on the Health Systems and Research Branch in the Division of Overdose Prevention at National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC). He obtained his Ph.D. in Health Services and Health Policy Research from School of Public Health at Emory University. He joined NCIPC in 2015. In his current position he serves as subject matter expert and conducts research for the Branch and Division on various topics including: prescribing patterns of opioids and benzodiazepines, measuring and identifying opioid misuse in large dispensing data, converting opioid in morphine milligram equivalents, patterns and factors associated with prescribing of medications for opioid use disorder, evaluating public health strategies and interventions for addressing the opioid overdose epidemic at federal, state, and health system level. His research uses surveillance data, survey data, as well as large health insurance and pharmacy claims data. He also serves as the scientific collaborator for CDC funded extramural research projects on opioid misuse and overdose prevention. He is also leading the Division’s agent-based simulation modeling efforts on trajectories and prevention of opioid use disorder and overdose.
