Dr. Liberto is the VA National Mental Health Director for Substance Use Disorders in the Office of Mental health and Suicide Prevention at the Department of Veterans Affairs. His past roles include several leadership positions in the areas of Mental Health, Substance Used Disorders and Education. In addition, Dr. Liberto has been an active participant in NIDA/VA cooperative studies examining pharmacologic interventions for opioid and cocaine addiction and has worked as a co-principal investigator to identify barriers and facilitators of sublingual buprenorphine treatment within VA. He is also a Past President of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and was a previous member of the American Medical Association (AMA) Opioid Task Force.
