Loretta Jackson Brown, PhD, RN, CNN is a senior health communication specialist and leads the Education, Campaigns, and Implementation Team in CDC’s Division of Overdose Prevention. In this role, she oversees the development of opioid training materials for healthcare providers, supports states with health communication related to opioid overdose prevention, and develops national campaigns to support drug overdose prevention. Prior to this role, she served as a senior health communication specialist in CDC’s Center for Preparedness and Response where she developed and delivered emergency risk communication training for international partners.
Dr. Jackson Brown has been a registered nurse for more than 35 years. She has worked across the continuum of nursing in outpatient and inpatient setting, caring for pediatrics to geriatrics. Dr. Jackson Brown has a combined 22 years of Air Force service, active and reserves. She is a retired Lieutenant Colonel and prior to working at CDC, she was the Chief Nurse Executive for the 94th Aeromedical Staging Squadron at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, GA. A certified nephrology nurse, Dr. Brown earned a PhD in nursing from Georgia State University School of Nursing, she currently serves on the Board of Directors for Emory Decatur Hospital in Decatur, GA.
