Adam Berrones is an epidemiologist with the Kentucky Office of Inspector General (KY-OIG) for the KASPER (Kentucky All Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting) system. Having earned a Ph.D. in exercise physiology from the University of Kentucky, Adam's approach to data analysis is research-driven and methodical. The work Adam does for KY-OIG is primarily internal, and focuses on drug investigations. Funded by the Department of Justice, he has worked with FBI, DEA, and HHS-OIG on complex federal cases using data science to drill-down into KASPER. Adam is a member of the Maternal Mortality Review Committee and has published his PDMP work, having collaborated with the University of Louisville. In addition, he compiles the statewide postpartum opioid prescribing to new mothers report, which has become a bedrock for perinatal quality collaborative initiatives.
