Dr. Adriane Irwin is a pharmacy practice-based researcher with efforts focused on how pharmacists can be used to improve medication use and health outcomes, primarily in the outpatient and community pharmacy settings. Recent work focuses on the opioid epidemic and developing strategies to increase engagement by community pharmacies in opioid-safety and harm reduction opportunities. She has served as a co-investigator or key contributor on multiple federal grants, including the Respond to Prevent clinical trial, where she oversaw community pharmacy academic detailing efforts across Oregon and Washington. Dr. Irwin’s interest in opioid safety is driven by her experiences working as an ambulatory care pharmacist in a rural federally qualified health center, where she cared for patients with chronic pain through collaborative practice agreements for almost 10 years.
