Nathan Payne is a person in long term recovery and serves as the Director of the Tennessee Collegiate Recovery Initiative a partnership between Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and Tennessee Association of Mental Health Organizations. Prior to this, Nathan had worked with the Department doing community outreach for those struggling with substance use and it is during this time that he developed the Tennessee Collegiate Recovery Initiative. In 2022, Nathan was awarded the collegiate recovery advocate of the year award by the Association of Recovery in Higher Education, an organization of which he was recently elected as a board member. He is also a graduate of the Mental Health Counseling program at Tennessee Tech University, and in his spare time pursues being an apprentice in the American Bladesmith society, and ultra running.
