Veronica Flood is a paediatric haematologist and oncology specialist. She is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and Associate Medical Director of the Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders. Her specialities and clinical areas of interest include haematology, anaemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, and bleeding disorders, in particular von Willebrand disease and haemophilia.
She received her M.D. at Tufts University School of Medicine, before undertaking a residency in paediatrics at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, AZ, and a fellowship in paediatric haematology/oncology at the Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, OR.
Her research interests include the interaction of von Willebrand factor (VWF) with platelets and collagens in the vascular endothelium, and the correlation of genotype and phenotype in patients with VWD, with the overall goal to improve diagnosis and treatment for affected patients. Dr Flood is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Hematology, the Hemostasis & Thrombosis Research Society, and the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. She recently served as the Clinical Chair of the ASH ISTH NHF WFH guidelines on the management of von Willebrand disease.
