Johannes Oldenburg is currently Director of the Institute of Experimental Haematology and Transfusion Medicine and the Haemophilia Centre, University Hospital Bonn, a position he has held since 2005. Prior to this, Professor Oldenburg completed his medical training at the University of Bonn before establishing and leading research groups at the Universities of Würzburg, Bonn and Frankfurt. He also previously held the positions of Assistant Professor at the University of Bonn, and Head of the Departments of Immune Haematology and Molecular Haemostasis at the Institute of Transfusion Medicine and Immune Haematology in Frankfurt.
He has received a number of scientific awards, including the GEFFRUP-Award University Clinic Bonn (1992), the Johann Lukas Schönlein Award (1996), the GTH Alexander Schmidt Award (2002), the GTH Professor Landbeck Award (2004), the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) Investigator Recognition Award (2007) and the Medal of the Polish Society of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine (2007).
Professor Oldenburg’s research interests are in blood coagulation factors (with a focus on haemophilia) and the vitamin K pathway, and he has published over 300 original articles in these fields. He is currently a member of ISTH, the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) and the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT).
