I am a board-certified hematologist with special interest in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis. Within my clinical practice I see many patients referred with either thrombophilia and/or thrombosis. My main interest within the area of thrombosis is to identify mechanisms of thrombosis in patients with cancer and in patients with unprovoked thrombosis. Thrombosis is the second leading cause of death in cancer patients and causes significant morbidity. Determining biomarkers and coagulation parameters that can help us to identify which cancer patients are at high risk for developing thrombosis will prevent this potentially lethal complication. My other interest is women’s health specifically focusing on pregnancy in women with hereditary and acquired thrombotic and bleeding disorders. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been participating as a panel member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) living guidelines on the use of anticoagulation for thrombophrophylaxis in patients with COVID-19. In addition, I am also collaborating with the World Health Organization in an ongoing prospective meta-analysis evaluating anticoagulation strategies in patients with COVID-19 infection. WIthin ISTH. I am a member of the Women's Health SSC
