Yves Gruel born in 1955 is a physician, a hospital practitioner in hematology and since 1993, a University Professor at the François Rabelais University of Tours. He was trained in Tours, but also in Paris (1984-85) at the Inserm U150 unit and in the United States at the Blood Center Research Institute in Milwaukee (1991-92).
Head of the Hematology-Hemostasis Department at the Trousseau Hospital in Tours between 1993 and 2018, he practiced a biological and clinical activity focused on congenital or acquired disorders of hemostasis.
He coordinates the Competence Center on Hemophilia and Hemorrhagic Diseases of the Centre Region in Tours.
Yves Gruel was also between 2013 and 2019 President of the French Study Group on Hemostasis and Thrombosis, or GFHT. He has an international expertise in platelet immunology, particularly on heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. He was also chairman of the Platelet Immunology subcommittee of the International Society of Hemostasis and Thrombosis (ISTH).
He has co-authored more than 200 scientific or medical articles published in international journals such as Blood, Circulation, Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis or Thrombosis and Haemostasis. He is currently the editor-in-chief of the Revue francophone d'Hémostase et Thrombose.
