Professor Maria Teresa Álvarez Román is the Head of the Haemostasis Unit at the University Hospital La Paz, Madrid, Spain.
She studied Medicine at the University of Salamanca, Spain. After completing the Haematology residency at Hospital La Paz, she obtained her PhD at the Autonomous University of Madrid with a research project on platelets.

She is a researcher of the “Coagulopathy and haemostasis diseases group” of La Paz Research Institute (IdiPaz), focused on Research, Development and Innovation.
Member of the committee of experts for the development of the “Therapeutic Guide for Hemophilia Patients”, Spanish Ministry of Health.
Director of the Master Degree titled “Master on congenital and acquired coagulopathies”, University of Alcala, Madrid. Director of the annual training course titled “Conference on hemostasis: from physiology to pathology”, International University of Andalucia, Spain.
She completed a Postgraduate Training Course on thrombotic pathology.
She is involved in a great number of clinical trials and has received several national and international awards in the scope of hemophilia and other congenital coagulation disorders.
More than 60 manuscripts and more than 30 chapters related to the specialty.
Member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the PedNet group.
President of the Scientific Committee of the Victoria Eugenia Foundation.
Member of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
