Aster Pijning completed a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. She worked in the fields of HIV infection and T-cell biology prior to moving to Australia, where she was awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council-Clinical Trials Centre scholarship to commence a Ph.D. investigating novel molecular mechanisms in thrombosis under the supervision of Professor Phil Hogg at the University of Sydney. Her work has resulted in manuscripts and book chapters published in high-ranking journals including Blood, Leukemia, and eLife. In 2022 she started as a postdoctoral researcher at the ARCF-Centenary Cancer Research Centre to continue her work on the discovery of a new concept in platelet integrin biology.
