Dr. Marcela Torres , MD, is the Hematology Service Director at Cook Children's Medical Center and she is also the founder and co-director of the Stroke and Thrombosis Program. She completed her medical studies at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, located in Lima, Peru, and did her residency in Pediatrics followed by a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology, at the Medical College of Wisconsin. After completing her fellowship, she moved to Texas with her family and since the year 2000 she has been working at Cook Children's Medical Center, at the Hematology and Oncology department. Her interest in hematology, specifically in hemostasis, supported by her background training, was quickly evident in her practice. This was followed by her active participation in clinical research and being awarded Cook Children's Endowed Chair for her Stroke and Thrombosis Program in 2018. Despite these accomplishments, she considers that her biggest gifts are her husband of 27 years and their wonderful 4 children.
