PhD student
University of Reading
Carly Kempster is a final year PhD student at the University of Reading and an ECR representative for The Platelet Society charity which seeks to support research and education of platelets and platelet related diseases. Carly also creates content to share via The Platelet Society social media channels to update members and engage audiences in platelet education (Instagram/Twitter/Facebook) - @plateletsociety.
Before starting her PhD, Carly worked as a Research Assistant in the department of Haematology at the University of Cambridge investigating platelet function in large cohorts, and at NHS Blood and Transplant (Cambridge) as a Component Development Scientist investigating a novel component for use during trauma.
Carly's research, under the supervision of Associate Professor Alice Pollitt and Professor Jon Gibbins, currently focusses on the delivery of cargo directly into human platelets using fusogenic liposomes as a delivery vehicle. This work will be available to view during the poster session on Monday July 11th, and as an ePoster. After her PhD, Carly would like to remain researching in the platelet field, and is open to postdoctoral opportunites and platelet related roles.
