VTE Prevention Clinical Nurse Specialist

Gerard Giron, Venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention Clinical Nurse Specialist at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, graduated from Nursing School (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) at the University of the East (Philippines) in 2008. He started his nursing career working in the Intensive Care Unit at Makati Medical Centre in the Philippines. He moved to the United Kingdom in 2013 where he started working at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCH) and finished Nursing Programme at City University of London. He initially worked at the Hyper-acute Stroke Unit as a staff nurse for a couple of years then moved to Intensive Care Unit where he was a senior staff nurse for almost 4 years. Afterwards, he worked as a Clinical Practice Facilitator in the Neuro-surgical High Dependency Unit in the same hospital before moving to Guys and St. Thomas Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) as Clinical Nurse Specialist for Thrombosis and Anticoagulation in 2018 where he specialised in the field of haematology, thrombosis and anticoagulation. In 2019, he had the opportunity to go back to King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and took up his current role as the VTE Clinical Nurse Specialist, promoting patient safety and ensuring best practice in preventing VTE to all hospitalised patients and in the community.
