Dr Amber Afzal, MD, MSCI is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at the Washington University in St Louis. She is a clinical investigator with specific interest in thrombosis and hemostasis. She graduated from medical school in Pakistan as the class valedictorian. She completed Internal Medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA. She joined Hematology and Oncology fellowship at the Washington University in St Louis, and graduated as the best graduating fellow in 2019. She also completed Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation at the Washington University in 2020. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology.
She is clinically inclined towards management of thrombosis and clonal myeloid disorders like clonal cytopenia of undetermined significance, myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative neoplasms. As a researcher, her focus has been outcomes research focused on thrombosis and hemostasis using the administrative data. She is currently studying the risk of thrombosis and hemorrhage in patients with chronic liver disease using the Veterans Administrative Data. Dr Afzal has a keen interest in teaching. She has successfully mentored several medical students and residents.
