Paola Canzano, PhD in Pharmacological Sciences, researcher at Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS, Unit of Cell and Molecular Biology in Cardiovascular Diseases, under the supervision of Prof. Marina Camera. The research activity is focused on the biochemical, cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of the atherothrombotic disease and their pharmacological modulation in coronary artery disease patients. Several studies are focused on the role of Tissue Factor in platelets, megakaryocytes and microvesicles in order to evaluate its contribution to the atherothrombotic disease and on the identification of new biomarkers able to predict the evolution of the disease or the risk of clinical events. In the last years, researches have been addressed to the study of platelet role in SARS-CoV2-infected subjects. Recently, research activity has been focused on the characterization of platelet phenotype and the hemorrhagic/thrombotic risk of patients with type A hemophilia. The research activities use approaches ranging from cell biology to molecular biology with a highly integrated strategy between basic and clinical research with the application of the most innovative biotechnologies.
