Tara Edwards, MSc, Clinical Scientist, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
I registered as a Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council in September 2021 having completed the Scientist Training Programme in Haematology and Transfusion Science. As a Clinical Scientist I specialise in molecular haemato-oncology at Addenbrooke’s hospital, in Cambridge, within one of the country’s leading genomic laboratory hubs. Key responsibilities of mine include analysis and interpretation of Clonality studies and Next Generation Sequencing data for myeloid and lymphoid malignancies, providing high quality testing for 29 NHS Trusts across the east of England. I am also one of my department’s Duty Scientists which involves allocating molecular tests to patient samples and providing scientific advice and expertise to clinicians and service users. I have an active role in the training and mentoring of trainees and assess registration and specialist professional portfolios. I am a member of the British Society for Haematology. During my training to qualify as a Clinical Scientist, I completed my registration portfolio, obtained a Masters degree and participated in research which provided insight into haematological responses to COVID-19 infection. As a trainee I worked across many pathology departments and was recognised for having contributed to the healthcare effort throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
