Dr. Matthias M Engelen is an M.D. Ph.D. student at the Center for Molecular and Vascular Biology (CMVB), University of Leuven, under the supervision of prof. dr. Thomas Vanassche. He graduated as a medical doctor in 2017 and now gets trained as a junior cardiologist at the University Hospitals Leuven. His research interests include thrombosis and hemostasis in cardiovascular diseases, but since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has mainly focussed on clinical research investigating the thromboinflammatory aspects of COVID-19. During this period, he also collaborated on several other randomized controlled COVID-19 trials.
