Group Leader for Platelet Signalling and Vascular Disease
University Medical Center Eppendorf Hamburg (UKE)
As an independent scientist, I am focussing my research on the role of both platelets and endothelial cells in vascular disease and neurovascular inflammation. I have had major projects funded by BBSRC, British Heart Foundation, Alzheimer Research and the European Research Council. I have particular expertise in the analysis of oxidative stress in vascular and blood cells and the assessment of the redox-dependence of physio-pathological vascular events (in platelets and endothelial cells, both in vitro and in vivo). Electron paramagnetic resonance- (EPR-) and flow cytometry-based detection of reactive oxygen species in live cells, thrombus formation under physiological flow conditions, vascular permeability analysis by electric cell-substrate impedance sensing (ECIS) and Doppler-based detection of vascular occlusion in vivo are key techniques in my laboratory.
