Catarina Monteiro, BSc in Biosciences, MSc in Clinical Biochemistry
With a background in molecular biology and genetics. In 2020 I was granted a PhD scholarship and a financed project so I'm currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences Doctoral Program from Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel-Salazar (ICBAS) University of Porto. My project is being developed at Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto (CHUPorto, Portugal), both at Unidade de Genetica Molecular and Serviço de Hematologia Clínica, and relies on the clinical and genetic study of Congenital Macrothrombocytopenias (CMTP). The main purpose is to develop a faster, more efficient and cost-effective diagnostic strategy for CMTP, contributing toward a better understanding of these disorders and enabling their characterization in our population, in terms of aetiology, genetic variation and phenotypic presentations. In addition, NGS technologies are being applied to uncover possible new implicated genes.
