Medical Student
Duke University
Hailey Harris is a fourth year medical student at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. Hailey is originally from Chicago and graduated with a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University in 2018. Prior to medical school, she was a postbaccalaureate research fellow at the NIH where she studied chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Her experience at the NIH inspired her to pursue further research in the field of hematology & oncology. She is grateful that Duke's medical curriculum includes a year of protected research time and worked in Dr. Gowthami Arepally's laboratory studying the role of complement receptors in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. She was awarded the American Society of Hematology’s Medical Student Physician-Scientist Award and Duke University’s Eugene A. Stead Research Scholarship for her research. Hailey will graduate from medical school in May 2023 and plans to pursue a residency in internal medicine.
