Her interest is direct toward understanding the connection between “brain and heart” in the coronary artery disease (CAD) scenario. She aims to disentangle the cellular and molecular mechanism(s) by which behavioural (e.g. smoking) and psychological factors (e.g. depression and environmental stress) and/or mutations of genes associated with mood disorders could they self or in cooperation with traditional risk factors of CAD influence thrombus formation, growth and resolution, and finally, predispose to myocardial infarct. Specifically, she is focused on neurotrophic and humoral factors and the characterization of extracellular vesicles as potential mediators of communications among organs in both human and experimental models.
