My name is Pengyu Zhang, a 3rd year PhD student within TICARDIO project, which is an international, interdisciplinary joint doctoral degree program, as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks within Horizon 2020. I received my B.Sc. in Pharmacy (2016) and M.Sc. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2019) at Dalian Medical University, including 2.5 years internship in Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Science. My master thesis focused on discovery of active compounds affecting adrenergic receptors from traditional Chinese medicines. This work resulted in publications and motivated me to obtain further training abroad in interdisciplinary biomedical research.
Based on a review of major interdisciplinary platelet phosphoproteomic studies, my PhD thesis addresses signaling pathways of both Syk and Btk in human platelets and their interaction with S/T protein kinases (PKs). I established a detailed kinetic analysis of Syk/Btk activation in combination with selected inhibitors, which is providing novel and first insights into the hierarchy and inter-connections within GPVI-induced signaling and to dissect major pathways beyond Syk/Btk activation in human platelets.
