Miguel A. Cruz, PhD
Professor of Medicine
Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Cruz received his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the Medical Science Campus, University of Puerto Rico, in Puerto Rico. He completed four years of postdoctoral training in protein biochemistry and hematology at Harvard Medical School, in Boston. He joined Baylor College of Medicine in 2000. Dr. Cruz's research focuses on the pathophysiology of thrombosis, with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms by which platelets initiate thrombus formation in clinical conditions such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and sepsis. The latter is associated with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and thrombotic microangiopathy. Actually, his lab is unraveling novel functions of the extracellular protein vimentin, particularly, its involvement in thrombosis/coagulation.
