I am Caroline Martens, a medical doctor who moved from the bedside to the bench in August 2020 to join the group of Prof. Dr. Kim Martinod and Prof. Dr. Peter Verhamme at the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. My main research interest is to study thromboinflammation in infectious diseases with a focus on the interplay between Peptidylarginine Deiminase 4, Neutrophil Extracellular Traps and the VWF:ADAMTS13 axis in Gram-positive sepsis and COVID-19. My work encompasses a combination of both translational as well as clinical research methods.
