Professor and Chair
The University of Kansas Medical Center
Professor Long Zheng is the Department Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the
University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, USA. Professor Zheng was
among the first group of scientists who identified and cloned ADAMTS13, a plasma
metalloprotease that cleaves von Willebrand factor. Over the past decades, Professor Zheng
has made seminal contributions in our understandings of the biology and regulation of
ADAMTS13 and the pathogenesis of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), and other
thrombotic disorders associated with ADAMTS13/VWF axis. Professor Zheng’s group has
published more than 120 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and 5 specialty textbook
chapters, and led the development and publication of the first ISTH guidelines for the diagnosis
and management of TTP. Professor Zheng also serves in leadership roles in many professional
societies, editorial boards, and study sections of National Institute of Health, USA.
