PhD student
Department of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, University of Ferrara, Ferrara, Italy
Laura Peretto is a PhD student in Biomedical Science and Biotechnology at the University of Ferrara.
She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science at the University of Ferrara in 2017 and a master’s degree in Functional genomics at the University of Trieste in 2020.
She did a one-year-long traineeship at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Trieste where she studied the role of N6-methyladenosine in the regulation of splicing mutations that caused Familial Dysautonomia, Spinal muscular Atrophy and Hemophilia B.
Currently, she is working on the application of RNA-therapeutics based on engineered U1snRNAs in different diseases caused by splicing mutations including Hemophilia. She is very interested in new approaches of genome editing, in fact, she is testing the prime editing approach to correct different mutations in the coagulation factor 9 gene.
