Professor
Institute of Experimental Biomedicine - Chair I, University Hospital and Rudolf Virchow Center for Integrative and Translational Bioimaging, Würzburg, Germany
David Stegner, PhD, is Professor for Vascular Imaging at the University Hospital and Rudolf Virchow Center of the University of Würzburg, Germany. After studying Biochemistry in Bayreuth, Germany, he did his doctorate in the working group of Bernhard Nieswandt at the University of Würzburg, Germany, and graduated in 2011. After two postdoc periods at the University Hospital Würzburg and the Rudolf Virchow Center, respectively, David Stegner became a junior group leader at the University Hospital Würzburg in 2016. In 2021, he was appointed as Associate Professor for Vascular Imaging at the University of Würzburg.
The focus of his research is to elucidate how platelets and immune cells interact in a process called thrombo-inflammation and how this contributes to different diseases, such as ischemic stroke. David Stegner’s research employs advanced fluorescence microscopy and transgenic mouse models to investigate hematopoiesis, the role of platelets in thrombo-inflammatory diseases.
