Professor Simon De Meyer (PhD) is head of the Laboratory for Thrombosis Research in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at KU Leuven University (Belgium). He obtained his PhD in Biochemistry at KU Leuven, after which he took a post-doctoral research position at Harvard University (Immune Disease Institute in the laboratory of Prof. Denisa Wagner, Boston, US). Since 2012, he is professor at KU Leuven Campus Kulak Kortrijk (Belgium), where he also serves as Campus Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. The research of Prof. De Meyer focuses on the thrombo-inflammatory aspects of primary hemostasis and thrombotic disorders. Focusing on von Willebrand factor biology, stroke and cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury Prof. De Meyer authored more than 100 interntionally peer-reviewed publications and is recipient of numerous scientific awards, including the Belgian Galenus Prize for Fundamental Farmacology, the Solvay prize for neurosciences, the Prize Secq/Houssiau for the study of hereditary bleeding disorders an the Prize Baron Marc Verstraete for the study of hemato-angiology.
