Dr. Suthesh Sivapalaratnam is a consultant at Barts NHS Trust in paediatric and adult haemostasis and thrombosis, a DERI Fellow and a honorary senior clinical lecturer at the Blizard and. His academic interests are precision medicine and data sciences. He has co-authored over 70 papers in peer reviewed journals. He did his PhD between the University of Amsterdam and Cambridge. He subsequently intercalated with speciality training in Haematology, he was a Postdoc at the Broad and University of Cambridge. Within his clinical role he is the genomics lead for haemostasis and thrombosis, interim lead for peadiatric thrombosis and the academic section of clinical haematology.At the DERI he is co-lead of the HaemAI group (https://www.qmul.ac.uk/deri/fellows/featured-research-/) alongside Dr. Sophie Williams. The main project he works on is early pandemic detection by using full blood count data. He closely collaborates with Dr. Nick Gleadall and Dr. Mike Roberts at the University of Cambridge and Prof. Slabaugh at the DERI. At the Blizard he is part of the Warner group. His focus is on deciphering the molecular basis of rare platelet disorders and young thrombosis by combining state of the art technology including multimodal spectral flow, proteomics and RNA sequencing. This work is done in close collaboration with the NBR Recall team (Prof. Mumford, Prof. Freson and Dr. Frontini and Dr. Turro), DERI (Prof. Barnes) and within the group Dr. Amstrong.
