Dr Emma Leitinger (MBBS BMedSci, FRACP, FRCPA) is currently the Hemostasis and Thrombosis fellow at Monash Health in Melbourne. In 2011, she graduated from the University of Melbourne with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, First-Class Honours. She has a strong interest in coagulation and thrombosis, in both the clinical and laboratory settings, and hopes to work as a clinician and researcher in the future. She has been involved in Vaccine Induced Thrombosis and Thrombocytopenia (VITT) testing through Monash Health (state testing centre for Victoria, Australia), and and presented a poster at ASH 2021 evaluating normal platelet count as a potential exclusion criteria for VITT. Dr Leitinger recently received the CSL Behring Prof Hemburger award for the project: “Comparability of anti-Xa assessments using alternate calibration curves in patients receiving rivaroxaban and apixaban therapy”, and was also awarded a grant through Monash Health to assess the safety and feasibility of using a subcutaenous catheter to administer enoxaparin in patients receiving long-term enoxaparin therapy.
