PhD candidate
Department of Hematology, Erasmus University Medical Centre, Rotterdam, the Netherlands
My name is Isabel Bär and I work as a PhD candidate at Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam in the group of Ruben Bierings since September 2021. Our group is researching Von Willebrand Factor (VWF) and its production, storage, and secretion. Thereby we also investigate VWF in the context of Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) using patient-derived endothelial colony forming cells (ECFC). In my project I am focusing on using gene editing to correct missense mutations in the VWF gene and its correlation to the phenotype of VWD. We hope to set the ground for personalized gene therapy approaches to improve the life quality of VWD patients. I have a background in biochemistry and did my master in molecular medicine at the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena, Germany. Previously I studied the impact of FLT3 ITD on bone cells in mice that showed an AML phenotype with a FLT3 ITD mutation.
