My name is Alexis Cralley, MD and I am a young physician-scientist at the University of Colorado Trauma Research Lab and at the Ernest E Moore Shock Trauma Center at Denver Health, I have a background in surgery and am currently working in an interdisciplinary lab focused on trauma-induced coagulopathy. Early on, I developed an interest in the interplay of different polytrauma injuries, and their effect on resuscitation, coagulopathy, and outcomes. My role in the Trauma Research Lab allows me to explore the dynamic changes in coagulopathy following polytrauma in both animal models and clinical settings. Using clinical and translational/basic science projects I focus on investigating the individual contributions of tissue injury, shock/hypoxia, and traumatic brain injury on clot structure, fibrinolysis, and protein pathways. I also have an interest in minimally invasive resuscitation strategies, with a focus on evaluating their efficacy in balancing volume and pressure support with protective effects on the brain. These interests have led to interdisciplinary grant funding, presentations at international and national conferences, and several publications. These research efforts are laying the groundwork for future ongoing basic science and clinical investigation that will carry me into a career as a clinician scientist.
