Postdoc fellow
St. Michael's Hospital
My name is Preeti Bhoria, MSc, Ph.D., working as Post-Doctoral Fellow at the LKSKI-Keenan Research Centre, Unity Health Toronto, St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, CANADA. My research interest focuses on platelet receptors (GPIIIa and GPIb alpha), exploring their role in Hemostasis and Thrombosis. Currently, I am studying the interaction of SARS-CoV-2 RBD protein and its variants with platelet receptors to understand the mechanism of infection-causing thrombosis/thrombocytopenia in clinical situations. Also, evaluating the role of the PSI domain in GPIIIa Integrin, which has an important function in blood clotting and Thrombosis. During my Ph.D. thesis, I worked on drug development and antibody production using phage display systems to understand their therapeutic potential for treating autoimmune disorders. We reported for the first time the potential use of an scFv R38 antibody in the immunodiagnostics of platelet activation in ITP patients. In addition, I evaluated the effect of steroids on the activation status of platelets in immune thrombocytopenia patients (ITP). With a specialization in Molecular Biology and Protein engineering, I am simultaneously working on protein structure, protein-protein interaction, and protein function using ex-vivo perfusion assay under shear conditions to develop the potential drugs for cardiovascular diseases.
