Allied Health Professional Medical Laboratory Scientist, Post-Graduate Student
University of Malta, Msida, Malta
Ms Kirsty Rizzo, BSc (Hons)(Melit), Allied Health Professional Medical Laboratory Scientist at the National Blood Transfusion Services in Malta and post-graduate student at the University of Malta. I am currently in the final stages of reading for a Master of Science in Pathology, following a 4-year course for a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Biomedical Science at the University of Malta. Throughout my years of studies, both as an under-graduate and post-graduate student, my research has focused on Coagulation and Haemostasis, under the supervision of Prof. Alexander Gatt and Mr. Kevin Vella. Our initial research focused on fibrinogen in patients with chronic liver disease, whereas our latest research aims to detail the haemostatic changes in patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms. The latter research was carried out in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, which proved to be challenging but highly rewarding. I was always passionate about laboratory science and becoming a scientist was my career dream. My goal in life is to enhance my knowledge and gain experience as a medical laboratory scientist whilst focusing on furthering my research skills, in the hope of finding innovative results which might help improve patient care. In my free time I enjoy creating art, specifically portrait drawings, a hobby which I picked up when I was still very young and more recently, as a nail artist.
