I'm Lina Marcela Silva Trujillo, a cum laudem Biologist and a Ph.D student in Biomedical Science at Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in Colombia. I joined the CROM-MASS research group in 2018 and started to work with essential oils and viral diseases. In parallel, I'm a teacher in genetics, cell biology, and virology to biology and medical students. My doctoral study is focused on alternative treatments for dengue, specifically in reducing platelet activation to prevent thrombocytopenia by treatment with essential oil of medicinal plants. I made a research internship in the Laboratory of Immunopharmacology, Oswaldo Cruz Institute, Brazil where I learned about different topics with platelets and Dengue Virus. I hope that our results start an important road to the development of treatments that are focused on avoiding platelet activation as an essential cause of severe dengue and death.
