Senior Research Fellow
Etablissement Français du Sang, University of Strasbourg, Strasbourg, France
Dr Alexandra Mazharian, PhD is a Senior Research Fellow at the Etablissement Français du Sang, Inserm UMR-S1255 in Strasbourg, France. The research theme of the unit is the biology and pharmacology of platelets in the context of thrombosis, haemostasis and transfusion medicine. Her main interest is the study of signalling events regulating megakaryocyte development, platelet production and function, with the overall objective of better understanding and targeting molecular mechanisms regulating platelet homeostasis in disease. More specifically, she investigates the role of protein-tyrosine phosphatases Shp1 and Shp2 in megakaryocytic diseases such as myeloproliferative neoplasms and myelofibrosis, characterized by aberrant megakaryocyte and blood platelet production, which are responsible for thrombotic and hemostatic complications. She has published several articles in leading scientific journals in the field, have been an invited speaker at national and international conferences, and regularly review manuscripts for leading journals.
