Tamam Bakchoul studied Human Medicine in Lattakia, Syria and finished his Doctorate in medicine 2002. His Doctoral Thesis „Development of innovative methods for the detection of human platelet antibodies“ was completed at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen, Germany in 2007. In 2015 Tamam Bakchoul habilitated in Transfusion Medicine at the University of Greiswald, Germany when he won a W1-Junior Professorship for Clinical Immunhematology and Haemostaseology. Since 2017 he has the W3-professorship for Transfusion Medicine at the Eberhard-Karls-University of Tübingen and is Medical Director of the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Transfusion Medicine at the University Hospital of Tübingen as well as the Medical Director of the Centrum for Clinical Transfusion Medicine.
Dr. Bakchoul is specialized in Transfusion Medicine and has an additional sup-specialization for Coagulation Disorder (Hemostaseology). His research work has a focus on platelet disorders and immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic. Tamam Bakchoul is a member of various Scientific Societies and work in the ISTH/SSC organization since 2012 and since 2020 as the chair of SSC „Platelet Immunology“.
