Coen Maas is Associate professor Immunothrombosis at the department of Clinical Chemistry and Haematology, in the University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands. He investigates the plasma contact system and plasminogen activation system. This research bridges the fields of cardiovascular research and clinical immunology. He has 98 accepted peer-reviewed publications (3881citations, H-index = 34; 37 last authorships, 10 first authorships) that are amongst others published in high-ranking journals such as Circulation, Blood, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Immunity and Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. He gratefully acknowledges financial support of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), patient organization HAEi, the Bayer Hemophilia Awards program, the Landsteiner Foundation for Blood Transfusion Research and the Netherlands Thrombosis Foundation. He is chair of the Scientific and Standardization Subcommittee "Factor XI and the Contact System" of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Theme Leader Coagulation for its 2020 Conference, and International Advisory Board Member for the 2021 and 2022 meetings. He is board member of the Dutch Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (NVTH; Nederlandse Vereniging voor Trombose en Hemostase) and holds as position as adjunct Professor Thromboinflammation at the University of South Denmark. He is founder of the biotech spinout company SERPINx BV (IP sold) and founder/CSO of TargED Biopharmaceuticals with patents on anti-inflammatory protease inhibitors and therapeutic agents against microvascular thrombosis.
