Professor Katrien Devreese (MD, PhD) is professor in Hematology/Coagulation at the Ghent University (Belgium) and head of department Scientific Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Ghent University. She is head of department of Laboratory Medicine at the Ghent University Hospital.
Professor Devreese obtained her Medical Degree at the Ghent University in Belgium followed by Specialization in Clinical Pathology/Hematology, and an Academic degree of Doctor in Medical Sciences (Ph.D.) with the thesis “The laboratory diagnosis of the antiphospholipid syndrome” at the Ghent University.
She is past-chair (chair 2017-2021) of the Scientific Standardisation Subcommittee (SSC) on Lupus Anticoagulant/Antiphospholipid Antibodies of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), following a period as co-chair. She is member of the ISTH Education Training subcommittee. She is executive board member and treasurer of the International Society for Laboratory Hematology (ISLH) and board member, of the Belgian Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
Her research interests are focused on studies in the diagnostic field of Antiphospholipid Syndrome, as illustrated in many publications and guidelines.
