Professor of Haemostasis and Thrombosis / Franchise Head RBD
Queen Mary University of London / Roche Products Ltd
John Pasi is Global Franchise Head Product Development – Non-Malignant Haematology and Rare Blood Diseases, Roche Products Ltd and Honorary Professor of Haemostasis and Thrombosis, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. He has moved to industry from a career solely in clinical medicine. He continues a voluntary clinical practice at the Royal London Hospital. Prior to moving to Roche, his practice spanned both adults and children and covered all aspects of haemostasis and thrombosis. Over the years his research interests have covered many aspects of inherited and acquired clotting disorders, but particularly recently bioengineered replacement therapies, novel therapies for haemophilia including AAV based gene therapy platforms for haemophilia A and B, RNAi rebalancing technologies as well as the optimization of replacement therapy using PK analysis. He has been closely involved in the design, development and delivery of clinical trials for new therapies through preclinical to phase 1-4 programmes. On a broader front, he has also been involved in the development of national policy and guideline formulation across a broad range of haemostatic and thrombotic disorders, served as Co-Chair of the World Federation of Haemophilia Gene Therapy Roundtable, International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis scientific subcommittee on FVIII, FIX and rare disorders as well a member of numerous national and international working groups. He was also advisor to the Parliamentary Health Select Committee on Health working on VTE prevention in hospital and the subsequent national drive on introducing universal VTE risk assessment and treatment into hospital practice with the Department of Health, which has now been embedded in UK practice for a decade. A change in role has been a fascinating experience and opened one’s eyes to the immense opportunities that lie with both partners when realising collaborations between the academic and industry sectors of healthcare.
