Alice Assinger, PhD is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Vascular Biology and Thrombosis Research at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. She started working with platelets during her PhD (2006-2009, University of Vienna) and went on to do a PostDoc in platelet biology at the Medical University of Vienna. After a PostDoc at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm/Sweden, where she engaged in viral research and cardiovascular disease, she returned to the Medical University to become a Prinicpal Investigator/Assistant Professor at the Center of Physiology and Pharmacology of the Medical University of Vienna. Since 2016 she is Associate Professor at the Institute of Vascular Biology and Thrombosis Research at the Medical University of Vienna. Her research focuses on the role of platelets in infection, inflammation and tissue repair with a focus on platelet-immune cell interplay. She has established various in vitro and in vivo assays to determine platelet interactions with other cell types in mice and humans.
