Professor Javier Corral received his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Salamanca in 1992.
From 1992 to 1995 he was post-doctoral fellow at the the Medical Research Council and Laboratory of Molecular Biology, PNAC Division, at Cambridge (UK). Coming back to Spain, from 1996 to 2001 he worked as post-doctoral Scientist at the University of Murcia/SMS, until he moved again to the UK, becoming fellow of the department of Haematology, Trinity College, and scientific visitor of the Welcome Trust Centre, CIMR, at the University of Cambridge. Since 2002 Prof. Corral works at the University of Murcia (Spain), where in 2006 was appointed to his current position as Professor of Experimental Hematology at the Department of Medicine.
He is author of 185 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His publications have more than 7748 citations (Hirsch's index 47).
He is leading a research group on hemostasia and thrombosis, which includes 2 postdoc, 4 Ph.D.-students and 1 technician. He has supervised 16 PhD.
He has received 45 grants from different Organizations. He has been granted by the Grifols International Award on Thrombosis and Haemostasis in 2008.
Prof. Corral is member of the editorial board of Thrombosis Research, and also ad hoc referee for about 30 biochemical, haematology, thrombosis and haemostasis, and genetic journals. He has been vice-president of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis (SETH) for 8 years.
His teaching activities include the following universities: Murcia, Valencia, Salamanca and Alicante, all of them in Spain, Aarhus in Denmark, and Oslo in Norway.
Prof. Corral is expert in hemostatic serpins, particularly in antithrombin, and is considered the world leading expert in antithrombin deficiency (http://expertscape.com/ex/antithrombin+iii+deficiency)
