Associate Professor
Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences
Dr Julie Rayes is an assistant professor at the institute of cardiovascular sciences at the University of Birmingham. She holds a PhD in vascular biology and thrombotic and bleeding disorders from the University of Paris 7 Denis-Diderot in France. She joined the University of Birmingham in 2014 and established her research group at the Birmingham platelet group in 2019. In 2020, Dr Rayes received a British Heart Foundation intermediate fellowship to investigate novel mechanisms of platelet activation in haemolytic diseases. Her research focuses on investigating novel mechanisms by which platelets regulate thrombo-inflammation focusing on platelet interaction with damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) and innate immune cells. In particular, her work focuses on platelet adhesion receptors as drivers of thrombosis and inflammation, both in sterile and infectious inflammatory conditions.
